On 5th May 2022, there was a major update rollout for WhatsApp. The updates comprise a few important features that could be quite important for businesses. In this article, we will talk about the new features and the upcoming updates to be released on WhatsApp.
1. Reactions on WhatsApp
5th May 2022, WhatsApp announced the inclusion of this new reaction feature which allowed users to react to messages on the latest version of the app. With the availability of to react to messages, it will help to acknowledge the messages effectively and reduce the overload of messages in the groups. It is also expected that more expressions are going to roll out and more expressions to be available in the near future as well.
2. File Sharing Size Increase (From 100MB to 2GB)
Another big update for WhatsApp is that users can now send files via WhatsApp up to 2GB in size at a time with protection from end-to-end encryption. This is quite a huge leap given that the previous maximum file size was 100 MB.
3. Increased WhatsApp Group Member Capacity
In addition to the new updates, it is also announced that the WhatsApp group now allows up to 512 people to be added to group chat. It was one of the top requests by the existing users in the community to have the option to add more people to the chat. Thus, the latest update now allowed more people to communicate in the WhatsApp group.
4. More Participants in Voice Calls
It is also announced that WhatsApp is increasing the group voice call limit to up to 32 people. As of now, only 8 people can be added to a group call at the same time. These updates will bring instant messaging platforms close to other chat apps like Telegram which has no limit on the number of people that can be added to group voice chat.
5. Upcoming Update: Admin Delete for Group Messages
This is one of the most expected updates by a lot of group admins. With these updates being available, the admin will be able to moderate the message in the group accordingly. Once the admin has deleted the message in a group chat, the message will no longer be available to any member of the group. This will be a very helpful feature for the admins to moderate and remove problematic messages in the group.
6. Upcoming Update: Instagram Reels on WhatsApp
It was also reported by WABetaInfo that Instagram Reels will be soon available on WhatsApp whereas allowing users to watch Instagram Reels directly from the messaging app. These new updates would make the linking between Meta-owned apps to be more closely integrated together in the dynamics.
7. Upcoming Update: More Time Limit for Deleting Sent Messages
As of now, most WhatsApp users are aware that the timeframe to delete sent messages is limited to 1 hour, 8 minutes and 16 seconds. However, the latest news reveals that there are plans to increase the time limit to 2 days & 12 hours. It does seem that the team is still discussing and finalizing the new time limit for deleting chat messages.
8. Upcoming Update: Companion Mode for Multi-device Sync
WhatsApp Companion Mode is a multi-device sync feature which allows linking to a secondary mobile device to the WhatsApp account to read & reply to messages. As of now, users can only link the existing WhatsApp account to a desktop. It is revealed that the users will be able to access the WhatsApp account on multiple devices given the limitation when the account is switched to another device, all the existing local data including chats and media will be deleted. It is expected that the Companion Mode will be available for iOS devices as well.
