We have been receiving inquiries from our workshop participants from time to time that they weren’t able to merge their Facebook Pages into one whereas the Facebook side has rejected the request.
There are quite a few reasons that the page merge request wasn’t approved by Facebook Page Support. We listed quite a few reasons in this article to hopefully help everyone to understand the page merge better to resolve the obstacles of merging two Facebook Page into one Facebook Page.
1) Page Names are Not Alike
If both of the Facebook Pages are having names that are not close to each other at all, it will be very likely the page merge request won’t be successful, because the system will identify them as two different business entities. Similar to a restaurant page won’t be able to merge with a retail/e-commerce Facebook page when they having huge difference of the page names.
2) Different Business Addresses
Similar to the first reason where the Facebook Page Names need to be identical in order to merge successfully, the business address should be the same as well. If the business addresses are not the same, the system will reject the page merge request thinking that it’s two businesses with similar names in two different locations.
This can be resolved easily by updating the business address in the Facebook page about section for the address.
3) Different Business Manager
Besides that, in order to merge the two Facebook Pages into one, one of the requirements is that the Facebook Pages needs to belongs to the same owner or Business Manager.
Facebook doesn’t allow individual page to merge with another page that is belong to the other business manager and vice versa. Thus, it is also important to ensure that Facebook Page belongs to the same business manager before you proceed to attempt merging the Facebook Pages.
If the Facebook belongs to another business manager, you will need to go into the respective business manager to remove the page ownership and add into the same business manager with the other page that is going to be merged.
4) Facebook Page is the Primary Page in the Business Manager
Another hidden reason that most people aren’t aware of is, that the Facebook Page that you want to merge from cannot be the Primary Page in the Business Manager in order to proceed with the Page Merge.
This means the original page you want to maintain can be the Primary Page in the Business Manager however the page you want to merge from (the page that will disappear) shall be NOT the Primary Page in any Business Manager.
To resolve this, the easiest way is to go to the info tab of the Business Manager to change the primary page to another Facebook Page.
5) Different Types of Facebook Pages
In recent updates on the Facebook Page, there are now two types of Facebook Pages available.
a. Classic Facebook Page:
Most Facebook Page are this type of Facebook Page which have all the similar features that every experienced Facebook users familiar about.
b. New Page Experience:
New Page Experience is a new type of Facebook Page with different interface that allows the page admins to interact and use Facebook similar to a Facebook user with newsfeed features.
Hence, when requesting the Facebook Page merge, it’s require both Facebook Pages are using the same type of Facebook Page type.
It’s possible to switch the Facebook Page to Classic or New Page Experience and vice versa, just do the switching before submitting the request to do Page Merging.
